Joey Carreon Named Head Coach for U.S. Grant Boys Wrestling

OKLAHOMA CITY - The U.S. Grant athletic department officially announced the hiring of Joey Carreon as the new boys wrestling head coach on Monday.

Carreon is entering his second season coaching with the Generals as last season he served as an assistant coach for both the football and track teams. Before joining U.S. Grant, Coach Carreon spent a year teaching biology and coaching multiple sports at Putnam City West High School. His coaching responsibilities included one season each with the football and track programs.

In the 2021-22 school year, he served as a weights instructor and middle school football coach at Alcott Middle School in Norman. His coaching journey began at the collegiate level with Southern Nazarene University, where he worked from 2020-2021 as an offensive line coach and quality control assistant.

Carreon holds a bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies and a master's degree in exercise science, both from Southern Nazarene University. A native of Edinburg, Texas, he is a proud graduate of Robert Vela High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete. He continued his athletic career at SNU where he played college football.

"I'm very excited to step into this new role at U.S. Grant." said Carreon. "We have some hard working student-athletes and I can't wait to make them better on the mat and in the classroom."
